| USABLE PROPERTIES: |
Copper tellurides in copper-tellurium alloys produce free-cutting behaviour, like lead and selenium. Thus, tellurium copper containing 1 % Te shows similar machinability as leaded brass. During turning, obtained is short, brittle chips corresponding to 1st machinability group materials. Effect of tellurium on machinability of copper is shown in the diagram below (quoted after Kurt Dies "Kupfer und Kupferlegierungen in der Technik", Springer-Verlag"):
|
| APPLICATION: |
Copper-tellurium alloys combine high electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity with good machinability. Copper-tellurium alloys are insensitive to dezincification that occurs in applications of leaded brasses. Copper-tellurium alloys are applied in:
- machining large numbers of parts at high cutting speeds with high dimensional accuracy,
- manufacture of welding machine nozzles,
- manufacture of parts characterised by good sliding properties and high thermal conductivity.
